Text Box: DID YOU KNOW…

If you throw a TV, computer, or other electronic item in the trash, then YOU could be harming YOUR environment?

E-Waste refers to electronic equipment that is no longer usable or wanted. It includes an always expanding range of electronic devices, including computers, TVs, cellular phones and personal stereos, digital cameras, MP3 players, DVD players, and electronic games (not including household appliances).

Today, when an electronic item breaks, it is often perceived to be more
cost-effective to discard it and replace it with a new, more modern item
instead of having it repaired. With technology advancing at an increasing
rate, this trend will only increase, and more and more E-Waste could
potentially end up in landfills.

Discarded electronics contain hazardous materials. If disposed of improperly,
they pose a potential threat to human health and the environment. Electronic
waste accounts for 40 percent of the lead and 75 percent of the heavy metals
found in landfills.

Although safe when used, once electronics are discarded in a landfill, the
acidic conditions provide an environment in which lead and other heavy metals
may leak out. If the landfill's liner fails, the groundwater supply may become
contaminated.

Don’t Pitch It! Bring it to the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency for proper disposal.
Electronic waste items brought to CCASWA are properly handled through an electronics
recycling company. SHOW YOU CARE by disposing of your E-Waste properly at CCASWA.
